Rahel Belatchew Architect MSA/SAR, DESA
Rahel Belatchew founded Belatchew in Stockholm in 2006 after a decade spent abroad, where she combined architectural studies in Paris and Amsterdam with work in France, Japan and Luxembourg.
The work of Belatchew is characterized by proactiveness and innovation within sustainable architecture and has come to be considered one of the leading architectural firms in Sweden. Rahel also leads the experimental studio Belatchew Labs, where innovative solutions for the future of sustainable urban development are explored. Projects within Belatchew Labs have attracted great international attention with numerous awards as a result.
Rahel is a recurring jury member of international architectural competitions and a frequent lecturer on issues of the future of sustainable living and urban development. The work of Belatchew has been published in newspapers, magazines and books covering over 60 countries.
In 2021, Rahel was selected by Public Swedish Radio to host “Sommar i P1” which is one of the biggest radio shows in Sweden and a staple in Swedish culture. Rahel is also a frequent participant in Swedish Public Television programs, where she comments on current architectural issues. She also took part in several documentaries.
She is one of 100 architects, and the only one from Sweden, who was selected for the book “100 Women Architects in practice” published by RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architecture) showcasing architects from across the globe.
In the book “Attitude as style” published in 2019, she describes her thoughts on the work of Belatchew, as well as an overview of selected projects.
