BILL DUNSTER

Bill founded ‘ZEDfactory’ in 1999 — The company aims to demonstrate that a step change reduction in carbon footprint is achievable at the same time as an increase in overall quality of life and completed BedZED, the UK’s first and largest Zero (fossil) Energy Development in 2001. Bill co-wrote the award winning

‘ZEDbook’ with eco footprint expert Craig Simmons and building physicist Bobby Gilbert – a manual for achieving zero carbon development at different densities and scales. ‘ZEDlife — How to build a low-carbon society today’ a book by Bill Dunster was published in May 2018.

In 2008 ZEDfactory won an international competition to design a zero carbon zero waste mixed use exhibition pavilion in the Urban Best Practice Demonstration Area of the Shanghai Expo — which has been open between May and October 2010.

He has held visiting professorships at: The Architectural Association (1996 – 1999), Kingston University (1999 – 2001), Harvard University (2009 – 2010), EPFL in Lausanne (2011), and is currently a visiting Professor at University College London (2000 – now) Bill continues to deliver lectures to a range of institutions and events around the world, a regular one being Green Housing Councils in various continents. He received the OBE in the 2010 honours list for services to Sustainable Housing Design.

He received a Lafarge Holcim Awards Bronze in 2017 for his project: The ZEDpods: Inhabited parking spaces in London, United Kingdom. This was then shortlisted for the Global Awards 2018.
