ANU PUUSTINEN

Studied in Helsinki University of Technology (Aalto University), department of Architecture and in TU Delft, Netherlands. Masters thesis New Cemetery Chapel of the Church of St Lawrence in 2004. Has taught building technology and design of public buildings at Aalto University.

Work experience since 1998 and qualified for AA building design tasks. Since 2004 own office Avanto Architects Ltd together with Ville Hara after the winning of the 1^st prize in an open competition for a cemetery chapel. Since then the scope of works has varied from small scale art and product design projects to urban design. The most recent work of the office is sauna Löyly that instantly proved a success and is featured in international media including New York Times and Times Magazine, where chosen among 100 Greatest Places in the World 2018.

Several prizes in architectural competitions. Various prizes and grants e.g. state artist grant, Bryggman prize for a young architect. Works have been awarded for example European Copper in Architecture Award, Concrete Structure 2010, Lighting of the year -prize 2011, City of Vantaa Quality Prize 2010 (Chapel of St. Lawrence), Suomi Prize 2016, City of Helsinki Quality Prize 2016 (Löyly),  Jury + Popular Vote Winner, Architizer A+Awards (Löyly), Chicaco Athaneum International Architecture Award 2018 (Löyly). Three times candidate for Mies van der Rohe Prize.

Works have been published in hundreds of magazines and books.

The works of the office have been presented in numerous exhibitions both in Finland and abroad for example four times in Venice Biennale 2010, 2012 and 2016.

Several lectures in European countries, Australia, Japan and the USA.

Many responsible positions for example at the Association of Finnish Architects.
