As the Founding Partner of Mikkelsen Architects, established in 2012, Stig Mikkelsen has nurtured a studio culture that is characterized by a humble, yet ambitious design approach.

As an architect and designer, Stig has a broad skill set and is especially recognized for his design achievements in university buildings, laboratory design and transformation of existing building mass – the most sustainable building approach.

Recent projects include the Laboratory and Logistics building, situated at the heritage Bispebjerg Hospital in Copenhagen – a project close to Stig’s heart. This modern research building with state-of-the-art laboratories required a close collaboration with the heritage building authorities, since both the surrounding buildings and the surrounding green landscape were heritage listed. It houses 9.500 m² of advanced laboratories and research facilities. Other projects are the 24.000 m² large health center Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen, which has won numerous awards since it was built in 2021, and several other education buildings for some of the most established and recognized institutions in Denmark and internationally.
